On April 8, Doane held its second blood drive of the school year.
According to Kelly Jirovec, Director of Health Services, the Doane blood drive was a success.
Although they had less donors than the previous year, the drive had a positive turnout. Jirovec said they came up seven people short of their goal of 70 donors.
Sophomore Matt Vecchio chose not to donate because he does not like the idea of giving other people his blood.
Freshman Michael Richards had a different point of view.
“My grandpa was given donated blood earlier this year, so that made me want to give blood,” Richards said.
Over the course of the school year, Doane holds a fall and spring blood drive. In the fall, members of fraternities and sororities are expected to help, and in the spring, the Residence Life staff helps with the drive. However, help is not limited to only those groups. Volunteers are welcome and encouraged to help.
“Overall, I thought it [the blood drive] went fine, but we need more volunteers,” said Jirovec.
If you would like to donate blood in the future or volunteer to help, contact Jirovec at 8265 for more information.
